Returning: Chapter 57

Ji Sui cocked his head, and Zhao Yu said, “I’m fine being dropped off at the Galaxy Hotel, that way you don’t have to take a detour to send me back.”

“You’re not going back?”

Zhao Yu forced a smile. “He’s probably waiting at my door, I don’t want to see him.”

Hahha super grateful to have such awesome people supporting me. Thanks to donations from both Ms. Hazellun and Ms. Umei, I will continue the back to back updates until TUESDAY! <3 Yayayayy. Thank you thank you!

Remorse

When Ji Sui parked the car at the entrance of the hospital, he saw Zhao Yu sitting in a daze in the flower bed.

The honk sounded twice, but she didn’t respond to it. He had to find his phone and dial her number.

Seeing the caller ID, Zhao Yu glanced at the door and walked over immediately. After getting in the passenger seat, he smiled and said to him while wearing the seat belt, “I’m sorry, I’m troubling you again.”

“No trouble, I just happened to be working nearby.” Ji Sui’s eyes fell on her haggard face, “Can’t sleep again?”

Zeng Xu had already told him on the phone that she didn’t sleep all night.

Zhao Yu smiled and said, “It’s okay. I just took some medicine, it’s the highest dose of the medicine Dr. Zeng had previously prescribed. I should be able to fall asleep after a while.”

After driving for a long time, Zhao Yu figured it was about time the medicine kicked in and she could finally stop forcing herself to stay awake. Leaning into the back of the chair and closing her eyes, she soon fell asleep.

Ji Sui turned his head to take a look and reached out to increase the air conditioner by one level. But in the end, he didn’t drive to the hotel but returned to his apartment complex.

She slept very deeply. After parking, he called her name several times to no response. Thinking that she was in a drug-induced sleep, he stopped trying to wake her up and simply carried her out of the car.

When entering the elevator, something fell out from her coat pocket. Ji Sui carefully held her and crouched down to pick it up. After a closer look, he discovered that it was a vaginal ointment designed to treat swelling and abrasions in the private parts.

His eyes fell involuntarily to her chest, but she was wearing a sweater with a slightly higher neckline than normal and could not see anything.

When he put her on the bed, he reached out his hand and ever so lightly pulled her neckline down. There he saw the many bruises that had not disappeared.

The always calm eyes at that moment were suddenly colored with hurt.

It was almost evening when Zhao Yu woke up. Not surprisingly, it was the room she had slept in twice before.

She had already guessed that Ji Sui would not send her to the hotel. After all, he had stayed here twice, what was a third time? It was just that after she fell asleep, she did not wake up midway.

Needless to say, the man must have carried her here from the car. Thinking of this, her lips raised in satisfaction.

Ji Sui was already busy with dinner in the kitchen. Such a tall and muscular man wore an apron and was skillfully cutting vegetables on the counter. Unexpectedly, the scene actually looked very sightly.

She stared at him blankly for a while before the man inside realized and smiled. “Woke up?”

Zhao Yu smiled awkwardly. “I’m sorry, did I… Sleep too deeply? You couldn’t even wake me up at the hotel.”

Ji Sui also laughed. “I thought you were sleeping so soundly I didn’t want to wake you up and brought you here on my own initiative. Please don’t mind it.”

“I should be asking you not to mind it, I’m always troubling you.”

Zhao Yu stepped forward to get another apron to help him, but he refused, insisting she stayed outside to rest.

Sitting on the sofa in the living room, she opened WeChat and saw countless text and voice messages from Xue Ziang. Unfortunately, she didn’t have the patience to read through them and just skimmed over them and closed the application.

However, at the door of Zhao Yu’s apartment, Xue Ziang still sat on the ground without a shred of care for his image, waiting idiotically.

From morning to evening, not even drinking his own saliva. The neighbor from next door came out to check on him several times. Some even reasoned with him that the owner might not be at home and asked him to go back, but he still did not give up.

On WeChat, he sent countless messages and stared at the phone so long his eyelids have started fighting, but he still didn’t receive a response.

She didn’t block his WeChat account, it was his only hope now.

Xue Zhan walked out of the elevator and saw him looking like this, and could not contain his anger even more. “If you knew it would’ve come to this, you shouldn’t have done it.” 1

Xue Ziang looked up and looked at him listlessly. “Why are you here?”

“You didn’t answer your phone, so I had to come myself.” Xue Zhan resisted the urge to kick him hard, and said sharply, “Get up! Everyone is waiting for you. Forgot what day it is today?”

“I won’t go back.” Xue Ziang looked at him pitifully, hugging his own knees, “I want to wait for Zhao Yu.”

“Do you think she still wants to see you?”

Xue Ziang had no response to that.

They sat in silence for a while. Just as Xue Zhan was about to grab him by the collar to pick him up, he suddenly asked, “Uncle, did you send her home last night?”

The answer was obviously yes, otherwise, how would Xue Zhan know to come to this floor?

Before Xue Zhan could answer, he asked again, “Then did she say anything to you?”

“She was crying that much, what do you think she could say?”

Xue Ziang expression darkened. “She was really…crying? Very hurt?”

“What do you think? Yesterday I bought the medicine for her. You should know what kind of medicine.” Xue Zhan glanced at him coldly, “You did a good job.”

Xue Ziang grabbed his hair in frustration. “I drank too much, I really didn’t know I would…”

Xue Zhan lightly scoffed once. “Do you know that drunkenly having sex is the most ridiculous excuse? People who are really drunk and unconscious can’t have sex at all.”

Xue Ziang couldn’t refute.

He must admit that he was indeed not drunk to the point where he didn’t know anything last night, at the very least, he knew that the person was Zhao Yu, knew he wanted her, and even now vaguely remembered the scene of wanton indulgence in her last night.

Why didn’t you control yourself?

“Where did you go last night?” Xue Zhan still looked down at him indifferently, “Does it have to do with Xu Miao? I asked someone to find out. I heard that she got married yesterday.”

Xue Ziang was stared blankly and nodded. “She canceled the wedding.”

“So you threw away your girlfriend and ran after her?” Xue Zhan laughed in anger, “Xue Ziang, you reap the evil you sow.”

“I am not…” Upon meeting his sharp gaze, Xue Ziang guiltily shrank his gaze away and murmured, “After the cancellation of the wedding was announced, she went missing, and nobody could find her. I was afraid that something happened to her, so…”

Xue Zhan didn’t have the patience to listen to his explanation. He only raised his wrist to check the time, and said in a deep voice, “Come back with me, don’t put the old man in the hospital again.”

Xue Ziang hesitated for a while, then got up obediently. His legs were numb after sitting for too long, so he stumbled as soon as he stood up, and almost fell in embarrassment.

Xue Zhan didn’t help him either. He turned around and walked away. He spoke again in front of the elevator, “When I left last night, she did say something to me.”

Xue Ziang’s whole face perked up. “What?”

“Please don’t tell the old man what happened last night.” Xue Zhan looked at him coldly, “She was afraid you would get hit again.”

Xue Ziang’s hands on the phone tightened suddenly, and he looked back at the door of the room that was still closed, his eyes a little hot.

1 早知今日,何必当初 “If I’d known earlier, I wouldn’t have acted that way.” It’s a well-known idiom showing regret. But the original Chinese has no pronouns so it’s really based on context. In this case, Xue Zhan is scolding Xue Ziang instead of the normal usage.

thank you for the update! I literally stayed up late tonight. It’s 1:18am rn and i have my exams at 8:00am but this story is my priority anyways, if i wouldn’t have known thaymt Zhao Yu is acting, i would feel sympathy towards her. but certainly, xue zhan and ji sui best bois

I am sorry for Xue Ziang situation . I kinda want to blame Zhao Yu a little. She is my girl though so can’t blame her forever. Ju Sui is really a gentleman and Xue Zhan my type of man tehee~ I am just really afraid for my girl when the boys find out that they are being played. But that’s in the future. Thank you very much for this update.

I feel so bad for each of the characters she plays…. It must be so hard on her, just handling so many emotions….even if she doesn’t care…
